Drs. John Minnich and Todd Alderfer Run the Boston Marathon
May 6, 2015
April 20th was the 117th running of the Boston Marathon. Two of GVH physicians, Dr. Todd Alderfer from ATC Cardiology and Dr. John Minnich from Upper Bucks Orthopaedics Associates, both competed in this year's special event. This is Dr. Alderfer's 15th consecutive year competing and Dr. Minnich's second consecutive year. Dr. Alderfer completed his marathon in 3 hours and 27 minutes while Dr. Minnich ran it in 3 hours and 11 minutes. The two physicians train together twice a week. The key to Boston is that a runner must achieve a qualifying time at another marathon in order to compete in Boston. "The qualifying standards are roughly set so that you have to be in the top 10% of marathoners in the world in your age group. You have to requalify each year," exclaimed Dr. Alderfer. Many things make Boston special: it's unique course, the history, the 2013 bombing, and that it is always held on Patriot's Day. Boston is also the oldest marathon and the fastest field, outside of the Olympics, based on the qualifying standards.
Congratulations Todd and John, and thanks for leading our community!
